July 29, 2011 (Arlington, VA) – The Director of the American Composites Manufacturers Association’s (ACMA) Composites Growth Initiative (CGI), John Busel, has become the first international recipient of a newly established industry award.

The honor was presented at the Fourth International Conference on Durability and Sustainability of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) Composites for Construction and Rehabilitation (CDCC2011) in Quebec City, QC, Canada. It recognized Busel for his “outstanding contribution to the advancement of the FRP composites industry in structures.”

“I am deeply humbled to receive this award,” says Busel. “I am proud to have represented the composites industry for the past 17 years and, specifically, what ACMA has accomplished in strengthening and developing new composites markets. ACMA’s powerful collaboration with member companies, government and academia helps us strive to make composites as successful as I believe they can and should be.”

Busel, who is a frequent presenter at industry events, was the keynote speaker for CDCC2011. His July 20th address examined “Recent Advances in FRP Reinforcement in Infrastructure.”

ACMA’s CGI focuses on promoting composites by educating and raising awareness, leading industry programs in market expansion and developing new market opportunities. Busel brings to his directorship more than 28 years experience in market development, composites design, tool engineering and manufacturing as well as research and development of thermoset and thermoplastic composite materials. He is also the author of numerous technical papers and is a member of standards committees in the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, and ASTM.
