Composites Industry’s Premier Event Welcomes Thousands of Attendees, More Than 550 Exhibitors
Oct. 14, 2014 (Orlando, Fla.) CAMX – The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo, the new go-to composites conference and trade show, launched today at the Orange County Convention Center. The expo, produced by the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) covers all aspects of the world’s composites and advanced materials communities. The exhibit hall features more than 550 exhibitors and will be open from Oct. 14-16. The education program features more than 300 sessions and will run from Oct. 13-16.
CAMX is the only source for connecting and advancing all aspects of the world’s composites and advanced materials communities. The conference will cover a multitude of topics: R&D, engineering, manufacturing, service providers and end-users and applications: automotive, aerospace, marine, wind energy, software, construction and infrastructure, medical, academics, sports and leisure. CAMX is America’s go-to event for products, solutions, networking and advanced industry thinking.
The conference brings together ACMA’s COMPOSITES show and SAMPE’s annual convention into a single, super industry event, offering the most robust conference program anywhere for the composites and advanced materials industries. CAMX includes:

The keynote speaker at CAMX is Kevin Mickey, President of Scaled Composites and a composites industry veteran. Scaled Composites has broad experience with air vehicle design, tooling and manufacturing, composites structure design, and analysis and fabrication. The company has completed many well-known projects, including SpaceShipOne, the America’s Cup Challenge race and the General Motors Ultralite Show Car. Mickey’s remarks highlighted his experience leading teams to instill entrepreneurial drive and culture. He also addressed the future of composites and advanced materials, attracting new talent to the industry, and creating a culture that supports innovation and creativity.

CAMX kicked off today with the CAMX Award presentations, sponsored by Ashland Inc. The CAMX Awards, announced during today’s general session, recognize cutting-edge innovations and innovators that are shaping the future of composites and advanced materials in the marketplace.
- The Combined Strength Award is presented to the composites product that clearly demonstrates a team approach and effort that brings together knowledge, resources, talent to produce an incredible example of the best use of composites materials that solves a problem. The award was presented to NASA in cooperation with Boeing for the Composite Cryotank Technologies & Demonstration (CCTD) project.
- The Unsurpassed Innovation Award is presented to the composites product that clearly demonstrates a novel design which bridges high performance materials and low volume manufacturing, or vice versa, to create an innovate product with the potential to significantly impact new markets. The award was presented to Composite Panel Systems, LLC for Epitome Quality Foundation Walls.
