May 3, 2016 (Arlington, Va.) – The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) has won two 2016 Communicator Awards from The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) for the composites industry’s first central online resource – CompositesLab. The website, which has now won a total of six awards, won AIVA’s Silver Award of Distinction in two categories – Association Website and Education Website. Composite manufacturers and suppliers use the site to explain the benefits of their products and train staff, while composites educators can use CompositesLab in their curricula to teach the next generation of industry professionals.

At CompositesLab, users can learn the basics behind the science of composites, get an overview of the composites industry and read case studies on how composites have been applied to various market segments. The site also outlines the benefits of composites and how they compare to other matierals. CompositesLab serves the needs of everyone in the composites industry – even major players like Strongwell

“It’s an entertaining and educational resource for anyone new to the advanced manufacturing industry,” says Te-Kai Shu, Social Media and Business Development Manager at Strongwell. “It gives new perspective on how composites are developed, formed and utilized within different markets against traditional materials.”

Another company that has benefited from everything CompositesLab has to offer is Hawkeye Industries. Hawkeye has been using it as an “educational bridge” for its customer service and technical sales teams. The company wanted to better understand the role composites play – between the processes Hawkeye supports and the industry at large.

“CompositesLab is like auditing a Composites 101 class,” says Shelly Bennion, Marketing & Operations Specialist at Hawkeye. “The design of the CompositesLab makes it possible to learn in small, digestible bits. It’s been a fantastic piece of our composites education and led each of us to ‘wow’ moments when discovering what composites can do.”
