Reducing Climate Impacts

In line with their corporate stewardship programs, or in response to market demands, composites manufacturers will look to reduce the cradle-to-gate emission of climate warming gases associated with their products.

The first step for a company is to assess their cradle-to-gate climate impacts. The report of this assessment will help a company identify the best opportunities for reducing the emission of climate warming gases associated with their products.

These CIRCLE resources will help companies identify options for reducing cradle-to-gate impacts:

Climate benefits of using composite products

Composite products are light weight, corrosion resistant, durable, need little maintenance and provide service lives up to 3-times longer than traditional materials. The industry has long accepted the sustainability benefits of composites, but authoritative expected service lives and quantitative use-phase impacts are needed to support claims presented on EPDs and other targeted communications designed to grow markets.

These CIRCLE resources are aimed at authoritatively characterizing the expected service life of composite products and quantification of use-phase impacts of using those products, encouraging end-users to make the full lifecycle comparison with traditional materials
