Composites Workshops at International Bridge Conference

Two of ACMA’s CGI Councils, Transportation Structures Council and FRP Rebar Manufacturers Council are conducting side-by-side workshops at the 2026 International Bridge Conference https://eswp.com/bridge/bridge-home/ to take place at the Gaylord Resort and Conference Center, National Harbor, MD.  The workshops will take place on Wednesday, June 17, from 8:00 am to noon. For more information, contact John Busel at jbusel@acmanet.org.

From 8:00 am – 10:00 am, IBC 07 Workshop – Bridge Construction with FRP Composites

This workshop will educate attendees with the recently published AASHTO LRFD Guide Specifications for the Design of FRP Pedestrian Bridges, 2nd Edition. Representative projects will showcase the use of FRP composites in pedestrian bridge construction, both truss-style pedestrian bridges and cantilevered sidewalks on existing vehicle bridges now widely used for pedestrian bridges. The presentation will cover FRP materials, loads, design and analysis considerations and design requirements.  Additionally, a look to the future from the ARPA-I X-Bridge Program will be provided.

10:00 AM – Noon, IBC 08 Workshop – FRP Reinforced Concrete – Proven Performance, Established Specifications, and Recent Project Recognition for Bridge Solutions – Glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar is an established, code-compliant concrete reinforcement offering proven advantages, especially in corrosive environments and applications where its unique properties and long-term durability provide superior lifecycle value. Like all construction materials, GFRP has application-specific strengths that make it the optimal choice for many bridge projects. Content for all stakeholders on GFRP-reinforced concrete bridge construction through a series of case studies and first-hand experience with field applications, laboratory testing, and specification development.
