What You Need to Determine if Your Product Is USMCA Compliant

Ensuring your products meet the rules of origin requirements under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) can help you avoid tariffs and keep costs lower for your customers. Understanding the right documentation and compliance steps is key.

ACMA members should review the preferential rules of origin requirements explained in General Note 11(b) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States, which provides several methods to determine whether a product from Canada or Mexico qualifies for duty-free treatment.

It is also important to understand the USMCA Certificate of Origin requirements to properly document compliance.

For additional guidance, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) provides a USMCA FAQ website with detailed information on compliance requirements, which can help ACMA members navigate the certification process and avoid common pitfalls.
