ACMA Hosts AASHTO Committee During TRB

ACMA’s Composites Growth Initiative (CGI) and Transportation Structures Council (TSC) hosted the AASHTO Specialized Structures Committee at the ACMA HQ building during the annual Transportation Research Board conference bringing the entire supply chain of bridge and transportation officials, engineers, contractors, to Washington. The AASHTO committee discussed many topics including standards development for FRP products used in bridge applications. The AASHTO Committee enjoys collaboration with ACMA.

During the committee meeting, the state bridge engineers agreed to move forward to develop a new design guideline focused on FRP tub girders which are the main structural components that hold up a bridge. ACMA also learned that AASHTO will be publishing a new design guide specification later this year for FRP Pedestrian Bridges that was approved at the 2024 AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures annual meeting. The TSC continues to collaborate and work with this committee to open new opportunities for FRP composites in the bridge market.
