Congress Stumbles Towards Partial Shutdown

With the House of Representatives in recess until Wednesday, February 28, Congress will have less than two days to avoid a partial shutdown starting Friday, March 1, with all federal funding lapsing on Friday, March 8.

House and Senate leadership remain at odds over how to fund the federal government.  House leaders continue to push to insert policy language related to key conservative positions on several issues.

If no solution is reached, the Environmental Protection Agency, Departments of Veterans Affairs, Transportation (including Transportation Security Administration), Housing and Urban Development, and Agriculture will lose funding and dramatically cut operations on March 1, with the remainder of the federal government joining on March 8.
