Electric Van Features Composite Body Panels for Lightweighting, Durability, and Cost Savings
Arrival looks to change the future of commercial vans with its new fully electric Van. The weight of the Van is cut by the lightweight aluminum frame and proprietary composite body panels, leading to greater range efficiency and reduced frequency and cost of repairs, as well as extending the Van’s life expectancy.
Both the payload (1975kg) and cargo volume (2.4m3 per meter in length) of the Van are comparable with fossil fuel vehicles, but because of the lightweight composite body panels and aluminum frame, the Total Cost of Ownership is reduced, as well as the cost and frequency of repairs.
Arrival developed proprietary software allowing real-time health monitoring and predictive maintenance on the Van. The hardware and software are able to be upgraded over the life of the vehicle, so the vehicle stays up to date on maintenance and technology, yet another means of reducing costly and time-consuming repairs and extending the lifespan of the Van.
Another technology offered to reduce costs and increase efficiency is the Van’s modular battery with ranges from 44kWh to 133kWh, allowing drivers to choose the best battery configuration for their range.
The Arrival Van also features touches for comfort including heated seating, independent front and rear suspension, and a 15.6” touch-screen interface that communicates the data being collected from the vehicle directly to the driver. Safety features and upgrades include digital e-mirrors, a 360-degree surround view, Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, and more.
“We believe that the rapid growth of e-commerce has led to a much higher demand for light commercial transport in cities, increasing both congestion and air pollution.” said Avinash Ruguboor, president and chief strategy officer of Arrival. “We are in the midst of an important market transition as more and more fleet managers adopt cleaner and more sustainable methods and cities adopt stricter air quality measures, we are looking to accelerate that transition with a best-in-class solution that has clear benefits, at a purchase price and TCO that makes the transition the best possible commercial decision too.”
Full production on the Arrival Van is planned to begin in Q3 of 2022.
